For years, I have immersed myself in the world of wellness, mindfulness, and self-discovery. Through my work with Verdi Health and Wellness, I have explored countless practices that promote healing and inner peace. But among them all, one simple yet profound practice has stood out: daily gratitude journaling.
My journey with gratitude journaling began as a small commitment— to write in a guided gratitude journal that I had purchased everyday

. At first, it felt like an easy routine, something quick to start my day on a positive note. However, as the days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, I realized that this practice was transforming the way I viewed my life. I became more present, more appreciative, and more attuned to the beauty around me. Even on difficult days, when stress or setbacks threatened to cloud my mind, my gratitude journal served as an anchor, reminding me that there was always something to be thankful for.
How to Start a Gratitude Journaling Practice
If you’re new to gratitude journaling, the good news is that it’s simple, accessible, and requires only a few minutes each day. Here’s how to begin:
Choose Your Journal – It can be a beautiful notebook, a simple notepad, or even a digital journaling app. Choose whatever feels right for you.
Set a Routine – Decide whether you want to write in the morning to set a positive tone for the day or at night as a reflection before bed.
Write Down Three Things You’re Grateful For – They can be big or small. Some days, it might be something profound, like a meaningful conversation with a loved one. Other days, it might be something simple, like the warmth of the sun on your face or a comforting cup of tea.
Be Specific and Reflect – Instead of writing “I’m grateful for my family,” consider writing, “I’m grateful for my sister’s laughter today; it made me feel connected and loved.” This deepens the emotional impact.
Expand if Inspired – You can write about why you are grateful for something, how it made you feel, or how you can carry that gratitude forward into your actions.
The Benefits of Daily Gratitude Journaling
The impact of daily gratitude journaling goes beyond simply making a list. This practice rewires the brain, shifting our focus from what is lacking to what is abundant. Here are some of the incredible benefits I have experienced and witnessed in others:
Increased Positivity – A regular gratitude practice helps shift the mind’s focus toward what is going well, cultivating a more positive outlook on life.
Reduced Stress and Anxiety – By emphasizing the good in our lives, gratitude journaling helps counteract stress and anxious thoughts.
Better Sleep – Ending the day with gratitude can promote relaxation, making it easier to fall asleep with a peaceful mind.
Stronger Relationships – Expressing gratitude for the people in our lives deepens our connections and fosters appreciation.
Greater Resilience – When challenges arise, gratitude helps build resilience by reminding us of our inner strength and the support around us.
My Personal Takeaway
Gratitude journaling has been one of the most transformative practices in my life. It has taught me that even on the most difficult days, there is still light to be found. It has helped me become more mindful, more connected, and more at peace with my journey. Whether you are looking for a simple way to boost your mood, reduce stress, or cultivate a more abundant mindset, I encourage you to give gratitude journaling a try. You may be surprised at just how powerful a few moments of thankfulness can be.
